I'm a veteran of Meet Christians and enjoy investing in the stock market now that I'm retired. Am curious if Darrell will find this site and share some of his recent investment experiences.
I supported a Lutheran Christian Hmong mission in Hanoi Vietnam with my Trump Stipend last year It's the only legal Christian mission in Communist Vietnam--legal because the Hmongs have been Lutherans for many years and they are allowed to continue worshipping in their native faith.
My goal in the stock market is to double my IRA this year if the market keeps going up, and to donate at least $1000 a year for the rest of my life to this mission. It is a ministry of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS).
I have an IRA and a brokerage account and use the brokerage account to donate up to $500 to religious organizaitons that I specify. Since it's a charitable donation, taxes are not withheld on the donation.
Thus, I try to increase my brokerage account amount by stock investments and donate the profits to charity. I invest in stocks with significant dividends--a couple I have right now are WES (Western Midstream Partners--a natural gas company in the northwest US--dividend of about 6.2%) and SHLX (Shell Midstream Partners--supplier of Shell gas in the U.S. from Gulf of Mexico--dividend is currently 14.44%/year). My goal is to invest my entire portfolio eventually in SHLX for the dividend and capital gain revenue.
This year I plan to donote about $1000 to my WELS church as part of my normal giving. The nice thing about donating from a brokerage account is the money I donate after profit is distributed to the church entirely, with both the contribution AND the tax that would be withheld--but isn't--as well. So the church receives money the government allows me to give them as a charitable contribution.
