Well, in the vein of preparation I am ramping things up a bit.
I've decided the best way to long term storage of food is NOT the purchase from 'survival companies' but do it myself with mylar bags, oxygen absorbers and food grade buckets if I get that far. What I'd store is things like rolled oats, non-gmo popcorn, quinoa, good pasta, dried beans, not too much rice, (Although that is cheap to store and helpful to neighbors if that time should come) dehydrated mushrooms, refried beans, any and all veggies and fruit.
Harmony house has good offerings, they have to be repackaged for long term. Although I am using mushrooms I opened years ago.
Amazon also has much to choose from.
An inexpensive food dehydrator would be awesome to provide your own.
Canned food works but rotate and donate to local food drives what you haven't used before best by dates each year.
Yes, many are good well past dates, only losing some nutrient value over time but some things, like pancake mix can be deadly.
That said, anyone have other resources or ideas?
Someone ask, with all the hoopla, at what point do we take a serious stand? I myself have no plan to storm anyplace. I simply want to and plan to be left alone. I will stand alongside locals, extending help as much as possible.

I suggest several fruit trees, perhaps with different (early, mid, late) fruiting times. I've heard a fig tree can start producing in one year. I have two mulberry trees that were absolutely covered in fruit this year but a very late frost killed back even the leaves. Each year is different in what produces and survives weather and insects.
Growing one's own food is often frustrating. Even experienced growers have terribly unsuccessful years.
I like the idea of root crops that can often survive in ground until it's needed. Sweet potatoes have the advantage of edible leaves. I learned this year how very long it takes to make slips.

oh, another suggestion to use and store is chia seed. I use it with oatmeal but adding it to yogurt or most anything fluid is an option to increase protein.

As a Christian I firmly believe God is in control. He may not desire for me what I think I desire and perhaps our current situation stems from lack of repentance on our part, but I've felt in my spirit that perhaps, just perhaps, He is setting the stage for another great awakening.
Either way, my eternity is secure. Whatever happens He will direct my steps.
