Hi Angee, thanks for pointing out to be appreciative to God for His blessings and the abundance of all things He gives us and does for us.
A thankful person will keep their heart humble before God. That thankfulness turns into appreciation for the kindness and love He’s showed to a person.
"grat·i·tude - the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness."
There are many scriptures in the bible that talks about being thankful, here are a few of them.
Luke 17
[11] And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
[12] And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
[13] And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
[14] And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
[15] And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
[16] And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
[17] And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
[18] There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
[19] And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
Jesus pointed out the Samaritan’s act of giving thanks unto God for the blessing of healing. And He also the pointed out the fact that the other 9 did not give thanks, and this fact was not lost on the Lord. The one who did give thanksgiving to God Jesus called a ‘stranger’. Sometimes the people of God take for granted God’s blessing.
Serving God with a thankful heart will make a person a joyful and give them gladness of heart.
Deuteronomy 28 (the blessings and the curses for Israel)
[45] Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:
[46] And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.
[47] Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;
Job is a great example of someone that was grounded in the goodness, love and blessings of God’s love for him. He was not grounded in the things he possessed or in his earthly status, but he was anchored in the one that gave him his possessions and status, although I don't believe he cared about his earthly status, but more his heavenly status.
Job 1
[20] Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
[21] And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
[22] In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
Job worshipped God in what ever state he was in, good or bad.
