Praise and Thanksgiving God with the UNDERSTANDING - Rick - 09-14-2022 God loves a thankful heart. Jesus made an example of this when He healed the 10 lepers Luke 17 [12] And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: [13] And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. [14] And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. [15] And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, [16] And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. [17] And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? [18] There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. [19] And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. Only 1 person turned back to give thanks to God for the blessing of being healed freely by God’s grace and power, and he was a Samaritan, a non-Jew. It would seem the other nine were Jewish, children of the covenant, but they didn’t so much as utter a thank you to God. Sometimes God’s people seem to feel entitled, that things like this are their right. I remember when I used to work from home 2 or 3 days a week (it varied, 3 days when I could swing it), before my company changed to working full time from home. I’d walk around the block at my house, about 2/3s of a mile and take a prayer hour. Praying and asking the Lord to put the prayers into my heart what he’d have me to pray, I started out by praising and thanking the Lord and putting my mind on Him (the area is fairly quiet). A little later in the prayer this scripture came to my mind: Eph.3 [17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, [18] May be able to comprehend** with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; [19] And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Praising and thanking God, thinking that I wanted to comprehend with my human mind more of who it is that I was praising and why it was that I was praising and thanking Him. Wanting to understand Him, and the reason I was thanking Him, trying to comprehend the depths of His love for me and wanting to thank Him more with a greater knowledge and understanding why. A question of why I would thank Him, not in a challenging way, but a desire to understand and comprehend what He’s done for me, and to know Him more. I know I haven’t gotten the understanding that I know is there and want, but every now and then He gives a little treasure of knowledge, a revelation of what He’s done for me and something to praise and thank Him more for. A year later I was praying and I asked the Lord, “Father send the spirit of praise and thanksgiving with the understanding into my heart and mind of who you are and what You’ve done for me, and send the spirit of praise and thanksgiving in the hearts and minds of all Your children with the understanding of Your love and greatness.” Eph 2 [7] That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. Nothing wrong with getting a head start on that verse and asking our Father in heaven to open the eyes of our understanding to His love, kindness and greatness to us who believe in Him through Jesus our Lord, Savor and soon coming King. Eph 3 [20] Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, [21] Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. So let us ask and then see what He will do for us. **Comprehend (Strongs Concordance): Outline of Biblical Usage [?] I. to lay hold of A. to lay hold of so as to make one's own, to obtain, attain to, to make one's own, to take into one's self, appropriate B. to seize upon, take possession of i. in a good sense, of Christ by his holy power and influence laying hold of the human mind and will, in order to prompt and govern it C. to detect, catch D. to lay hold of with the mind i. to understand, perceive, learn, comprehend |
